The purpose of this site is to furnish one central place where average (intermediate skill level) home and small office computer users can come to resolve problems, test performance and check the security (virus and spy-ware infiltration) of their machines. I have collected these resources while working to resolve problems with customer, family and friends machines and refer back to them frequently. I am not to be held responsible for the outcome of the use of these links and do not profit in any way, shape or form from their use. This is simply an attempt to help others to help themselves by saving them the time and effort of finding these tools and utilities. Also included are links to programs that I install when configuring a new Operating System, i.e. WinZip (used for opening compressed files), Irfanview (an excellent graphics program for viewing and modifying just about any format of graphic images) and Adobe Reader (for opening Adobe PDF files).

Almost all software applications you install using the default installation have been written to startup when Windows starts. Unless you have sufficient memory installed every program or application you install slows the other programs down little by little to the point where they become sluggish and unusable as they are all competing for system resources simultaneously.

You can use MSCONFIG (Microsoft System Configuration Utility) to monitor and halt programs from starting with the Windows Startup and through the process of elimination determine which applications are hogging resources and slowing your machine. This is for determining what the problem is, not curing it, although many people run their machines in Selective Startup Mode without consequence.
